Mimotaurus is a professional independent theatre founded in 2003 by Dominik Tesař. It represents an open platform for cooperation between artists of various interests. Together we have created more than a dozen productions, as well as solo projects of the founder of the theatre.
Our projects combine elements of street performance, visual art, puppet shows and traditional theatre. Most of our actors are also excellent musicians (accordion, violin, guitar, saxophone, and violoncello). We work with a myriad of scenes and puppets, live music and sometimes also with the audience too.
A common theme of all out projects for adults is the search for the poetics of a fantastic and bizarre world. Playfulness, hyperbole and sometimes also sarcasm and black humour are characteristic features of our production. Some of the performances are derived from popular folk theatre, others are influenced by biblical stories. In our more serious theatre the fatal vulnerability of man is revealed as he searches but fails to find a deeper meaning to life.
We also dedicate a portion of our productions to original fairy tales. They offer an outstanding opportunity to use the innocence of the black and white truth, and supernatural creatures acting like deus ex machina.
Mimotaurus is a theatre without a permanent scene. Since 2004 our site is in Prague, from where we go on various tours all around the Czech Republic and Europe. We also perform at many festivals, both local and international.
